Safety hook on a rope, next to a steel structure

Steel structures: installation, inspection and painting

We work on beams, trusses, columns, stacks and pipe bridges: installing new members, inspecting connections and restoring corrosion protection where a scaffold would have to wrap the whole structure.

Scope of work

  • Installing brackets, supports, platforms and secondary members
  • Visual inspection of welded and bolted connections, with a photo report
  • Mechanical wire-brushing to remove rust and prepare the surface
  • Applying the anticorrosion coating system specified by the client
  • Local touch-ups after installation, welding or damage
  • Support at height for inspectors and survey teams

When rope access makes sense

On tall, open structures where the work is local or spread over the full height and a complete scaffold cannot be justified.

For abrasive blasting over large areas or heavy lifts that need a crane, we recommend a combined method and take on the part that genuinely needs ropes.

How the job runs

  1. Structure documentation

We start from drawings, the coating specification or the inspection requirements.

  2. Anchorages on the structure

We set anchor points and protect edges along the rope paths.

  3. Work in sections

Preparation, coating or installation section by section, with the area below protected.

  4. Acceptance

We hand over with photos per section and our inspection notes.

Rope access, scaffold or crane?

We choose the method after the site visit. If a scaffold or a MEWP suits your job better, the quote will say so.

What helps us quote

  • Type of structure, height and estimated surface area
  • Coating system specification, if there is one
  • Drawings or photos of the affected areas
  • Working restrictions around the structure

Frequently asked questions

How is the price set if you do not publish rates?

It depends on the area to be treated, the condition of the steel, the coating system and number of coats, height and access to anchorages, and the time of year, because painting depends on temperature and humidity.

Do we supply the paint, or do you?

We work with the system specified by the client or the designer. If there is no specification, we propose one together with the paint supplier and include it in the quote.

Do you weld at height?

Tell us what welding is needed. We include it in the quote only if we can carry it out to the project and site requirements.

What do we get after an inspection?

A photo report locating the defects observed visually. Structural conclusions remain with the designer or the authorised inspector.
