Industrial roofs · solar installations
Solar panel cleaning on industrial roofs
We clean PV arrays on warehouse and commercial roofs, with protected access across the roof and without standing on or loading the modules.
Scope of work
- Cleaning with deionised water and soft brushes, no harsh detergents
- Removing industrial dust, pollen and bird droppings
- Working clipped to lifelines or anchors, away from unprotected edges
- Visual check of modules and mountings, with a photo report
- Annual schedule matched to the season and local dust sources
Worth knowing
Cleaning follows the module manufacturer’s instructions so the warranty is not affected. We never point a high-pressure jet directly at the modules.
Ground-mounted solar farms do not need rope access; we only work there if other work at height is needed as well.
How the job runs
-
System details
Number of modules, layout on the roof and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
-
Access and water
We agree roof access, the water supply and the anchorages available.
-
Row by row
We clean in the recommended slots, usually early in the day while modules are cool.
-
Report
You get before-and-after photos and our notes on the modules.
Rope access, scaffold or crane?
We choose the method after the site visit. If a scaffold or a MEWP suits your job better, the quote will say so.
| Criterion | Rope access | Scaffold | Crane / MEWP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobilisation time | hours, once the plan is approved | days to erect and strike | depends on plant and permits |
| Reach into tight areas | good: interiors, façades, steelwork | limited by building geometry | limited by boom reach |
| Ground footprint | minimal, exclusion zone only | for the whole job | outriggers and a cordon |
| Impact on operations | low, work runs section by section | high around the scaffold | medium, with traffic restrictions |
What helps us quote
- Number of modules or installed capacity
- Roof type and how to get onto it
- Water supply available on the building
- Date of the last clean and nearby dust sources

Frequently asked questions
How is the price set if you do not publish rates?
It depends on the number of modules, roof access, whether anchors or lifelines are in place, the distance to a water supply and how dirty the panels are.
How often should panels be cleaned?
It depends on the location: near roads, ploughed fields or dusty processes, more often. For most industrial roofs, one or two cleans a year is a sensible starting point.
Do you use detergents?
Normally just deionised water. Any cleaning agent is used only if the module manufacturer approves it.
Does the system need to be switched off?
The electrical safety procedure is agreed with the system operator before work starts.
